وكان أمر أن لا يترك أحد ممن يأتي من خراسان يدخل بلاد الهند إلا إن كان برسم الإقامة، فلما أعلمتهم أني قدمت للإقامة استدعوا القاضي والعدول وكتبوا عقدا علي وعلى من أراد الإقامة من أصحابي وأبى بعضهم من ذلك.

He had ordered that no one coming from Khurāsān be allowed to enter the land of Hind unless it was with the intention of staying. When I informed them that I had come to stay, they summoned the qāḍī and the notaries and drew up a contract binding me and those of my companions who wished to stay; some of them refused.
