ولما بويع ركن الدين بعد موت أبيه افتتح أمره بالتعدي على أخيه معز الدين فقتله وكانت رضية شقيقته، فأنكرت ذلك عليه فأراد قتلها فلما كان في بعض أيام الجمع، فخرج ركن الدين إلى الصلاة ، فصعدت رضية على سطح القصر القديم المجاور للجامع الأعظم، وهو يسمى دولة خانة ولبست عليها ثياب المظلومين، وتعرضت للناس وكلمتهم من أعلى السطح وقالت لهم: إن أخي قتل أخاه، وهو يريد قتلي معه، وذكرتهم أيام أبيها وفعله الخير وإحسانه إليهم، فثاروا عند ذلك إلى السلطان ركن الدين وهو في المسجد، فقبضوا عليه وأتوا به إليها، فقالت لهم: القاتل يقتل، فقتلوه قصاصا بأخيه وكان أخوهما ناصر الدين صغيرا فاتفق الناس على تولية رضية.

When allegiance was sworn to Rukn al-Dīn after his father's death, he began his rule by attacking his brother Muʿizz al-Dīn and killing him. Raḍiyya, his full sister, condemned this, and he wanted to kill her. One Friday, when Rukn al-Dīn went out to prayer, Raḍiyya climbed onto the roof of the old palace next to the great congregational mosque, called Dawlat Khāna, wearing the garments of the wronged. She showed herself to the people and spoke to them from the roof, saying: 'My brother has killed his brother, and he wants to kill me too.' She reminded them of her father's days, his good deeds and his kindness to them. At that they rose against Sultan Rukn al-Dīn while he was in the mosque, seized him and brought him to her. She said to them: 'The killer is to be killed.' So they killed him in retaliation for his brother. Their brother Nāṣir al-Dīn was young, so the people agreed to make Raḍiyya ruler.
