When famine took hold of the land, the Sultan moved with his armies to the river Gang, to which the Hindus go on pilgrimage, ten days' journey from Dihlī, and ordered the people to build. Before that they had made tents of grass, and fire often broke out in them and harmed the people, so that they made caves under the ground, and when fire broke out they threw their belongings into them and covered them over with earth.
