When the Sultan learned of what he had done in burying the two skins, he summoned him. Kishlū Khān, knowing that he intended to punish him, refused and rebelled; he distributed money, gathered troops and sent to the Turks, the Afghans and the people of Khurāsān, and a great host of them came to him, so that his army equalled the Sultan's army or exceeded it in number. The Sultan went out in person to fight him, and the encounter took place two days' journey from Multān, in the desert of Abūhar. The Sultan took precautions at the encounter, placing under the parasol in his stead Shaykh ʿImād al-Dīn, brother of Shaykh Rukn al-Dīn al-Multānī, who resembled him — and it was he who told me this. When the battle grew hot, the Sultan drew apart with four thousand of his troops, while Kishlū Khān's army made for the parasol, believing that the Sultan was under it, and killed ʿImād al-Dīn. It spread through the army that the Sultan had been killed, so Kishlū Khān's troops busied themselves with plunder and scattered from him, and only a few remained with him. The Sultan then made for him with those who were with him, killed him and cut off his head. When his army learned of this they fled. The Sultan entered the city of Multān, seized its qāḍī Karīm al-Dīn and ordered him to be flayed, and he was flayed. He ordered Kishlū Khān's head to be hung over his gate, and I saw it hanging there when I arrived in Multān. The Sultan gave Shaykh Rukn al-Dīn, the brother of ʿImād al-Dīn, and his son Ṣadr al-Dīn a hundred villages as a grant, to live on and to provide food at their hospice named after their grandfather Bahāʾ al-Dīn Zakariyyāʾ. The Sultan ordered
