Among them is the pious and learned shaykh Maḥmūd al-Kabbā, with the single-dotted b, one of the great saints. People claim that he spends from the unseen, since he has no visible wealth, yet he feeds those who come and go and gives gold, dirhams and garments. Many miracles have appeared through him and he became famous for them. I saw him many times and obtained his blessing. Among them is the pious and learned shaykh ʿAlāʾ al-Dīn al-Nīlī, apparently named after the Nile of Egypt, and God knows best. He was one of the companions of the learned and pious shaykh Niẓām al-Dīn al-Badhāwunī. He preaches to the people every Friday, and many of them repent before him, shave their heads and fall into ecstasy, and some of them faint.
