Its name is spelt with a over the hā' and i under the rā'. It is a fine city on the coast of the great sea, and there the river of Sind flows into the sea, so that two seas meet there. It has a great harbour to which come the people of Yemen, the people of Fārs and others, and for that reason its revenues are great and its wealth abundant. The amīr ʿAlāʾ al-Mulk told me that the revenue of this city is sixty lakhs a year (we have already stated the value of the lakh), and of this the amīr receives nim dah yak, meaning one twentieth. On this basis the Sultan grants territories to his officials: they take one twentieth of it for themselves.
