"Mount now." So he mounted with his intimates and mamlūks; he opened the gate for him, let him out and shut it behind him. Then he asked admission to Muʿizz al-Dīn and swore allegiance to him. He said, "How can this be for me when the succession belongs to my cousin?" He informed him of the ruse he had contrived against him and of his expulsion, and he thanked him for it. He took him to the royal palace and sent for the amīrs and the notables, who swore allegiance to him by night; in the morning all the people swore allegiance to him, and the kingdom was secure for him.
