13.1.1

When the Sultan succeeded to the kingship after his father and the people swore allegiance to him, he summoned Sultan Ghiyāth al-Dīn Bahādur Būra, whom Sultan Tughluq had taken captive. He showed him favour, removed his fetters, gave him lavish gifts of money, horses and elephants, and sent him back to his kingdom. He sent with him his nephew Bahrām Khān, and made a pact with him that the kingdom would be shared between them, that both their names would be inscribed together on the coinage and mentioned together in the sermon, and that Ghiyāth al-Dīn would send his son Muḥammad, known as Barbāṭ, to be a hostage with the Sultan. Ghiyāth al-Dīn went back to his kingdom and observed the conditions laid on him, except that he did not send his son; he claimed that he had refused, and was insolent in his words. So the Sultan sent troops to his nephew Ibrāhīm Khān, under the command of Duljī the Tatar. They fought Ghiyāth al-Dīn and killed him, flayed his skin, stuffed it with straw and paraded it around the provinces.
