When the Sultan returned from Tiling and the news of his death spread, Tāj al-Mulk Nuṣrat Khān, one of his long-standing intimates, whom he had left as his deputy in the land of Tiling, heard of it. He held mourning for the Sultan, proclaimed himself, and the people swore allegiance to him in the city of Badrakūt. News of him reached the Sultan, who sent his tutor Quṭlū Khān with great armies. He besieged him after fierce fighting in which multitudes of people perished. The siege pressed hard on the people of Badrakūt, which is strongly fortified, and Quṭlū Khān began to undermine it. Nuṣrat Khān then came out to him under a guarantee of safety for his life; he granted him safety and sent him to the Sultan, and granted safety to the people of the city and the army.
