So I recited it that day thirty-three thousand times. I spent the night in the council hall and fasted continuously for five days, completing a recitation of the Qurʾān each day and breaking my fast on water only. Then after five days I broke my fast, fasted continuously another four, and was released after the Shaykh was killed, praise be to God Most High!
