ووجد في بيت صنم عظيم حجر منقور دلت كتابته على أنه مبني منذ أربعين ألف سنة، فقضى السلطان من جهل القوم عجبا، إذ كان أهل الشريعة الغراء، والحق المنزل من السماء، على أن مدة الدنيا سبعة آلاف سنة، وإنا منها في الألف الأخير، وكل ما تساندت به الأخبار من أمارات الساعة موجود، وبأبصار العيون وبصائر القلوب مشهود. واستفتى فيه أعيان الفقهاء و العلماء، فكل أجمع على إنكار [ما فهم من] ذلك المنقور، وعلى تزييف مثلها من شهادات الصخور.

In a great idol-temple a carved stone was found whose inscription indicated that it had been built forty thousand years ago. The Sultan marvelled at the ignorance of those people, since the people of the radiant Law and of the truth sent down from heaven hold that the duration of the world is seven thousand years, and that we are in its last millennium, and all the signs of the Hour supported by the traditions are present, witnessed by the eyes' sight and the hearts' insight. He sought a ruling on it from the leading jurists and scholars, and all agreed in rejecting [what was understood from] that inscription and in declaring false such testimonies of rocks.
