After that Khalaf ibn Aḥmad wrote disavowing what had been attributed to him and clearing himself of what he was blamed for. Nāṣir al-Dīn pardoned what had rankled in his breast concerning him, and overlooked what he had drawn from the well of his heart and the pool of his treachery, and for the rest of his life he remained steadfast in humouring and treating him kindly, until certainty came to him from his Lord and he passed into the neighbourhood of His mercy and forgiveness.
