Then the Sultan was informed of a secret correspondence between him and Ilek Khān, through confidential letters he had sent him and messages by which he incited him against [the Sultan]. Prudence required that he be moved to Jardīz, to spare him, should what was ascribed to him prove true, to complete the favour done him, and to guard against what might lead to the nullifying of that kindness and the muddying of that pool. He remained there in that state until the decree fell due upon him and death carried him off, in Rajab of the year 399. The Sultan ordered that all he left behind be kept for his son Abū Ḥafṣ, confirmed in his possession, and that he be allowed to enter his service.
