خیالات محال در خاطرش مجال یافت ، وظنون فاسده در باطنش متداخل شذ، ووساوس وهواجس بر دماغ ودلش مستولی شذ ، با خوذ گفت : حامه از برای ه خانهآ من خریذه اند ، وآن جوان کسهای عروس من بوذه . ازین بخییلات وتوهمات بر خاطرش می گذشت، چندانک مرد را صفرا بشولیذ ، وسودا غلیه کرد ، چوبی برگرفت ، پشت وپهلوی زن در هم شگست؛ وتعریک و تأدیبی بلیغ بحای آورد؛ وزن از موجب این تأدیب بی خبر از خانه بیرون آمذ ، وبسرای بدر وماذر خویش رفت . روز دیگر گنده پیر بتقحص آن بدر سرای براز رفت ، وچون از ماجرای اعلامی یافت ، بزدیک زن2 آمذ وبوجه محبت گفت :

Impossible fancies found room in his mind, corrupt suspicions entered his inward thoughts,
and whispers and anxious thoughts overcame his brain and heart. He said to himself: "They bought this cloth for
my house, and that young man was the suitor of my bride!" From these imaginings
and suspicions crossing his mind, the man's yellow bile became agitated, and black bile
overpowered him. He seized a stick and battered the woman's back and ribs, and inflicted a severe thrashing
and punishment upon her. The woman, ignorant of the reason for this punishment, came out of
the house and went to the dwelling of her parents. The next day, the old crone, in order to inquire into
the matter, went to the door of the draper's house, and when she obtained news of the affair, she came to the wife
and said in a friendly manner:
