61.1

ذرابی والفلاة بلا دلیلووجهی والهحیر بلا لثام # فانی أستریح بدی وهذدا وأتعب بالاناخة والمقام # فقد آرد المیاه بغیر هاد سوی عدی لها برق الغمام ولا أمسی لأهل البخل ضنفا ولیس قری سوی مخ النعام وآن غرایب کلم وعجایب حکم کی تأسیس قواعد ریاست وتأکید مانی سیاست است متضمن مصالح دین ودولت ، ومتکفل مناجح ملک وملت ، جد او هزلمانند ، وموعظت او حکمت پیوند ، بامثال واشعار واخبار د وآثار آراسته کردم ، تا متصفحان این محموع ومتأملان این سطور هر یک بر حسب نظر ودقت خاطر نصیب گیرند ، وعالم وحاهل بر اندازهآ رأی ورویت ذخیره بر دارند ، وفواید او کاقهٔ‌ مردمان را شامل وعواند او عامهٔ‌ 18

'Leave me and the wilderness without a guide, / and my face and the midday heat without a veil;
For I find rest in traversing and descending, / and I grow weary from dismounting and staying;
For often have I arrived at waters without any guide / except the lightning of the clouds pointing the way to them;
And never shall I spend the night as a guest to the stingy, / when there is no hospitality except the marrow of an ostrich!'
And those rare words and wondrous maxims—which are the laying of the foundations of leadership and the reinforcing of the principles
of statecraft, encompassing the welfare of religion and state, and securing the successes of kingdom and community,
its seriousness like pleasantry, its counsel joined with wisdom—I adorned with proverbs, poems, historical reports,
and traditions, so that the perusers of this collection and the contemplators of these lines may each
receive a share according to their insight and subtle discernment, and the scholar and the unlearned alike may reap
a provision according to the measure of their judgment and contemplation, and its benefits may encompass all people and its advantages may be attained
