The King's Displeasure and His Summoning of Sindbād
This matter was brought to the king's ear, and sorrow seized his fragrant mind, and he said to himself:
"After all, the polisher with patience and deliberation makes of the dark substance of iron within a few days
a mirror whose dark substance attains such polish and purity that it reflects
the beauties and 'your forms, and He perfected your forms', and imitates the subtleties
of the human form, so that contemplation of the signs of royal glory and observation of the gardens of divine handiwork
become possible by means of it. The elements of the nature and talent of my son are not harder than iron,
nor darker than its substance. For the marvels of instruction and the arts of this sage,
"there ought to have been some trace from the wonders of this sage's teaching and arts, and some effect from the enduring of his pains that he has borne over this period."
