Would that what lies between me and my loved ones in distance were like what lies between me and calamities!
I told this story in order that the king might not proceed with a punishment that is pure oppression and tyranny,
lest tomorrow he regret the execution of the command, and become a blamer of his own deeds and a reproacher
of his own actions, just as that man did from killing the parrot; and then, for a lifetime, from
the haste of that punishment, he fall into sorrow and grief, for in truth the story of the wiles of women
exceeds the grasp of understanding and the reach of apprehension, and an intelligent person should not, on account of these people, enter the sack
of their absurdities and be deceived by their flirtation and flattery. And if the king has not suffered weariness and boredom
from the relation of these discourses, let me tell a tale from the stations of the wiles of women and the accounts
of their treachery. The king commanded: “Speak!”
