When about seven years ago Professor Prasanna Kumar Acharya published the two volumes, *A Dictionary of Hindu Architecture* and *Indian Architecture according to Mānasāra Śilpa-śāstra*, he challenged the attention of the world and gave an impetus to the study of a long-neglected subject. He has now completed his stupendous work with the publication of three volumes containing the Sanskrit text of *Mānasāra* with critical notes, a translation of it in English, and illustrations in line and in colours which run to 157 plates. The effort has cost him about twenty years of devoted research and the result is an achievement which has been deservedly acclaimed as monumental. His marvellous tenacity of purpose has enabled him to succeed where others have given up the colossal task in despair.
