But since the above was written in 1910, important evidence has accumulated which warrants us to revise the above view in regard to the origin and early development of the Bodhisattva cult at Mathurā. There are nine sculptures, all products of the Mathurā school, which I came across during my recent compiling of an uptodate Catalogue of the antiquities in the Mathura Museum and my studies relating thereto.
