नृत्यतां गायतां चैव नानावाद्यं प्रकुर्वताम् ।
यथा संतुष्यते देवो न ध्यानाद्यैरिति श्रुतम् ॥
(Jaiminīy āśvamedha, 12.22)
"When the people dance and sing and play on their several musical instruments, they make the Deity happier than by their meditational practices—thus have we heard".
