The Tree refers to the Tree of Existence, as the Pipal or the Bodhi tree, and the flower to the fruition of the inherent power in the tree, be it lotus, Pārijāta, Mandāra or any other variety. Viṣṇu and Lakṣamī typify the universal parents like Siva and Pārvatī, Rādhā and Kṛiṣhṇa, same as Dyāvā-Pṛithivī of the Vedas, being the two halves of a single primeval Egg, Hiraṇyāṇḍa. Lakṣmī is depicted in the art of Bharhut, Sāñchī, Amarāvatī, Bodh-Gayā, Mathura, etc. and it is not possible to put a religious label on her. The Siri-Mā Devatā at Bharhut is this symbol.
