¹ Śaradātilakam, Chapter XIV, vv. 41-2: Vadetpādam caturthyantam Brahmā-Viṣṇu-Śivātmakam | Saurāya yogapīṭhāya namaḥ padamanantaram | Pīṭhamantro’yamākhyāto Dineśasya jagatpateḥ. In verse 7 of the same chapter a description is given of the Ballabhārdha variety of the Sun image, in whose hands are to be placed such attributes as khaṭvāṅga, padmas, cakra, śakti, pāśa, śṛṇi (an elephant-goad, known also as aṅkuśa), akṣamālā, and kapāla; we can easily recognise in this assortment many of the emblems of the members of the Brahmanical triad, and those of Sūrya.
