After the decay of the Yaksha and Nāga styles, it seems various regional schools came into being, the most important among them being the school of Madhyadeśa or Magadha founded by Bimbasāra in the time of king Buddhapaksha. We do not know who this king was, though it is probable that he was some Gupta king. If that, be so, then the school founded by Bimbasāra refers to the Gupta school of painting and sculpture in the 5th and 6th centuries.
