A short sketch of eighteenth century Kandyan architecture is thus completed. Further details are to be found in the chapters on stone and woodwork. As an appendix to the present chapter, a summary account of the builders’ handbook, *Mayāmataya*, is given, based, not on the Sanskrit original, but on the corrupt Sinhalese version in use. Astrological and ritual works are also much used, particularly *Geval-shadvargaya*, *Uluvahu peṇima*, etc. A complete account of the ceremonies associated with building would be of greatest interest and value, it is to be hoped that someone will communicate to the Royal Asiatic Society a paper on this subject.
