We pass to the wooden articles used especially in the kitchen. The most noteworthy of these was the spoon rack (heṇḍi-āna), of which fine examples are shown in Pl. XI., figs. 5, 6, and 7. This was suspended from a beam, and the long handles of the wooden spoons set in the holes. The spoons themselves were usually made of a piece of coconut shell (pol-kaṭuva) with two holes into which the handle passes. Some are pierced for use as strainers. Another use of small pieces (ends) of coconuut shell was in making sweetmeat moulds; two ends, of equal size, were carved inside and then pressed together with the sweetmeat between; the moulds were called sinī piṭṭu kaṭu, the sweetmeat itself, sinī piṭṭu.
