The art of cutting quartz (crystal) which occurs abundantly in fine transparent masses has been understood from remote times. There is a crystal Buddha at the Daḷadā Māligāva. At Asgiriya there is a crystal *karaṇḍuva* about a foot in height. Spectacles are still made by hereditary workers in Uḍa Dumbara.
