∗ *Ondaatje (loc. cit.) gives seven parts of iron to three of dried wood as the proportion producing the best steel. He states also that the wood of kuḍu-miris (Toddalia aculeata) is also used, and the proportions are then three of iron to one of wood, or better, five of iron to one of wood; but the steel so made is of inferior quality.
