The blacksmith tenants of a *navan-panguva* of 1½ acres at Alatuvagoda had to give yearly a billhook, a coconut scraper, an arecanut-slicer and a pair of scissors to the *devale*; to repair the locks and keys when required, and to nail laths; to appear before the Basnayaka Nilame with two arecanut slicers to the *kankanama* (overseer) and to the *vidane* (headman). These services were commutable for Rs. 19.40 (Lawrie’s Gazetteer, pp. 14, 15).
