Handles and handle roses of plain or damascened iron or steel are like the bar locks, necessary parts of the furniture of a vihāra door. Such handles consist of three parts, the ring, the staple, and the handle-rose. The rose is almost always domed. In most cases the whole is elaborately damascened. Pl. IV., 3, shows a blacksmith at work damascening a handle-rose with silver wire.
