The *Janavamsa* records many previous importations of Indian weavers*; but in every case the industry decayed, and fresh blood had to be imported. With the detailed history of these weavers we are not here concerned, as they seem never to have become an integral part of the Sinhalese population as the imported Indian smiths have done.
