In a few cases, Plate XVII., the original gold appears in the reproduction as yellow. It will be seen that the elements of the central design, the least characteristically Sinhalese, are repeated in the binding of the same volume (Pl. LII.) which I suppose to have been executed by some European resident in Kandy at the time.
