The relic is now preserved in a series of elaborate jewelled caskets (dedicated by successive kings) one within the other, fastened by three keys kept by the Diva Nilame, and the high priests of the Asgiriya and Malvatte. With the caskets is kept a quantity of beautiful jewellery which has been dedicated from time to time. The tooth is only exhibited upon rare occasions, perhaps once or twice a year, for some great personage, and at the same time is shown to crowds of pilgrims from different parts of the country.
