Mayadunnē and his son Rāja Simha I. waged continual, and on the whole successful, war against the Portuguese, from the Sinhalese capital at Sītavaka. Rāja Simha’s successor, Vimala Dharma Sūriya I. (A.D. 1592) established his capital once more in Kandy, which remained hereafter the seat of Government until the Kandyan provinces at last passed under foreign rule.
