The order of priests had become extinct in Narēndra Siṃha’s reign. His successor, Vijaya Rāja Siṃha (A.D. 1737-47) sent, by advice of one Veḷiviṭa Sāmaṇera, deputations to Siam to bring over learned priests to restore the order, but died before their arrival. When in Kirti Śrī’s reign the Siamese priests arrived (A.D. 1753) Veḷiviṭa was placed at the head of the order, with the title of Saṅgha Rāja.†
