∗ So far does this fiction prevail, that a valuable paper, dealing with the origin, distribution and traditions of the craftsmen in Ceylon, recently offered to the Royal Asiatic Society, Ceylon Branch, was rejected by the referee, a Government official (though not in any sense an official censor to this learned society) who vetoed it on the ground that it dealt with caste; as if any such paper could do otherwise!
