The end of Pulikeśin's reign saw the temporary obscuration of the Chālukyan power, when the Pallavas invaded the country and reduced Bādāmi. But this state of affairs did not last for long, as Pulikeśin's son, Vikramāditya I., re-established the supremacy of the family, led his troops to the gates of Kāñchī itself and took the city. He is described as a devout worshipper of Śiva.
