As already mentioned the Yādavas had crossed swords with the Hoysaḷas during the reign of Bhillama whose son was defeated in battle by Ballāḷa. But, in spite of this reverse, Bhillama held the northern districts, and established himself, for the time being, at Aṇṇigeri, while Jaitugi I., his son, made his headquarters at Vijayāpura (Bijāpūr). It was Siṅghaṇa II., Jaitugi's son, who completed the discomfiture of both the Kaḷachuris and the Hoysaḷas, and added to his kingly titles those of "Uprooter of the water-lily which was the head of the king of Telunga," and "The conqueror of the Kaḷachuri king". He fixed on Dēvagiri as his capital. His inscriptions are found all over the country previously occupied by the Western Chālukyas.
