¹ This is a Chloritic Schist belonging to the Schistose group of the Gneissic Series. It can be had from quarries at Dudḍahaḷi in the Kōḍ *tāluka*; Dēvagiri, 6 miles from Hāveri, Sāvanūr; Byādgi; Mōṭebennūr, various places in the Hāngal *tāluka*, and at Sangur in the Karajgi *tāluka* It can also be obtained from Silīśankar hill near Beldhaḍi, about 5 or 6 miles south of Gadag. This hill has a quantity of old bits of carving strewn over it, and it is probable that stone was taken from here for the old temples at Gadag, Lakkundi and Dambal in the neighbourhood. The old quarries have, during the last six or seven hundred years, become obliterated by disintegration and filling in. (From information collected and supplied by Mr. H. J. M. Cousens, B.Sc, P' W. D.)
