Mr. S. M. Edwards, I.C.S., in an article contributed to *East and West*, for April, 1902, sought to show that this same site which he calls "The Dead City of Shashti," was that of Partappur or Partappur which Marathi records state was built near the centre of Shashti (Salsette) by Pratapdeva or Partapdeva, son of Bhimadeva, who fled from Devagiri to Salsette on the approach of 'Ala-ud-dīn Khilji.
