At the present day, however, it is absolutely impossible for anyone to gather an accurate knowledge of the principles of Hindu music without the aid of learned natives, a practical acquaintance with the capabilities of their instruments, and without consulting the best living performers—things that few persons have opportunity or leisure to attempt.
