³ "Śakaṭamedhī", i.e., axle of the cart. Though the above is an extract from Dr. Shamasastry's translation of Arthaśāstra, I have altered his translation in the above line because his rendering is based on an obviously erroneous construction. The original text being "चत्वारः शकटमेधीप्रततस्तम्भसप्तपरिक्षेपाः"; his endering is "four cart-poles, pillars, and walls."
