(6) *Man-fort* (nṛdurga). Its defence lies in its strength of men. It is sub-divided into two species ‘sainyadurga’ and ‘sahāyadurga’. Sainyadurga (soldier-fort) is an impregnable fort protected by infantry, the horse, and the elephant stationed in array as sentinels within and without it.⁴ Sahāyadurga or mitradurga (ally-fort) derives its security and protection from its various allies bound by entente cordiale to defend it in case of any emergency.¹
