¹ Cf. Harivaṁśa, Viṣṇuparva, Ch. 38, l. 38:—“Vehicular streets (rathyā), avenues (vīthi), and men’s roads (nṛṇām mārgah) were constructed in the city.” This classification of streets and their separate enumeration can be explained only on the hypothesis that there were distinct roads fixed for each class of passers-by.
