v2.c25.s2.1

The great temple of Bhuvaneswar, known as the Lingarâja, is one of the landmarks in the style. It is traditionally ascribed to a Lalâtendra Kesarî, who is said to have ruled in the 7th century; though this is mere fable, the temple may tentatively be ascribed to about the 9th or 10th century; but be this as it may, taking it all in all, it is perhaps the finest example of a purely Hindû temple in India.
