I. — Statuette in white porcelain, belonging to the Musée Guimet, Paris. As Prof. Ed. Chavannes kindly informs us, it represents the Song-tseu Kuan-yin; the goddess holds in her lap the child (tseu) which she is supposed to bring (song) to the faithful. Her necklace is cross-shaped. She sits on a rock, encircled by two dragons and lotuses, and on her left is seen a book. The child is provided with a writing-pencil and a roll of paper. Before the pedestal stand to the right the golden boy (kin-t'ong) and to the left the jade girl (yu-nin). Height m. 0,38. It is well known that this type has been industrially reproduced in thousands of specimens.
