I. Photograph taken by the author in 1896 at the Lahore Museum (cf. p. 117). In the upper row reposes a colossal head with a moustache, obtained from the excavations of Kharkai (cf. Art g.-b. du Gandh., I, p. 18); in the middle one two Buddhas, seated in the pose of meditation; on the lowest and on the ground three others in the attitude of instruction. It will be observed that a great number of them had, before being collected for the museum, already lost their heads (cf. ibid., p. 14).
