*Form.* The *Sāman* is divided into five parts:
(i) *Prastāva*, introductory ascription of praise, preceded by the syllable *hum*, sung by the *prastotṛ*, or assistant priest.
(ii) *Udgītha*, preceded by *om*, sung by the *udgātṛ*, or priest.
