The scale was increased to six by the addition of *kruṣṭa*. That this was an afterthought is seen in the fact that it is independent of the nomenclature by ordinals, in the hesitation as to *kruṣṭa* or *kṛṣṭa*, and in the confusion introduced into the musical hand (lines 19 and 25). Finally, a seventh note was tentatively admitted in the *atisvārya*.
