Smooth and sweet were the tones, articulate, full of emotion, delicate and mind-pleasing. What do I say? Some girl seemed to be hidden in the sounds. I can hear him still; his notes are well-ordered,¹ his song is soft, and the sound of the strings of the vīṇā is in tune with the voice. The upper notes which are introduced into the middle of the rise and fall of the Aria have a soft close.² He sings it as easily as a child plays with a toy. Although the music is finished, I seem still to hear it as I move.’
