c15.s14.1
According to Rāga-Tarangini by Locan-Kavi (Circa 1375 A.D.) This scheme obviously belongs to the Southern or Carnatic School, according to which 12 root-rāgas or melas (major melodies) are chosen, and to each mela certain derivative rāgas (janya-rāgas) are ascribed. The melody Dīpaka-rāga, the last in the list, is not described and its derivative melodies are not indicated on the ground that at the time of the author, the Dīpaka had ceased to be current and had become unfamiliar to practising musicians.
